T-Mobile Galaxy Tab up for pre-order at $700 off-contract

Amazon has quietly begun taking pre-orders for the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab that suggest the carrier may charge a premium. The Android tablet is listed as costing $ 700 off-contract, or $ 100 more than the Verizon model. Its contract price has already been put in at the same $ 400 as competitors.

It’s unclear whether the pricing will remain the same by the time the Galaxy Tab ships on November 10 or if it’s simply inaccurate. Amazon has been known to make placeholder prices before, but rarely so close to the launch of a shipping product. T-Mobile hasn’t commented on the cost, but its version is virtually identical to others with a 1GHz processor, 16GB of storage and a handful of already free apps preinstalled.

The price if so would make the tablet both the most expensive variant so far in the US and significantly more expensive than a comparable iPad. Although the Galaxy Tab has the advantages of front and back cameras, a 16GB iPad with 3G costs $ 629 with a larger screen and longer battery life. [via Android Community]
